Introducing Jordan Laird, NYMetroParents' fall 2017 editorial intern

I grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, OH. When I was 8 years old, I wrote, edited, and produced a newspaper for my household with all the best materials available to me: printer paper, Elmer’s glue, and colored pencils. When I was 10 years old, I invented my own superhero persona, Archery Girl. I (unfortunately) couldn’t become a superhero, so I was destined to become a journalist.

Now I’m a junior at Hofstra University majoring in journalism and political science. At Hofstra, I write for The Hofstra Chronicle as well as produce the news show for the Hofstra Radio Station. I’m also a member of the Hofstra Rock Climbing Club.

Last spring semester I traveled the world with Semester at Sea and it cemented in me a lifelong love of travel, as well as a deep value for global citizenship. I was fortunate enough to visit parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. I got to see how people from other cultures live their lives differently but also how we’re all the same in some really universal ways.

My experience with children comes from being a nanny, as well as my two lovely younger stepsisters, Hailey and Kayla. I love baking, crafts (especially friendship bracelets), superheroes, and Pinterest.
